1.) there are reports that indicate that a lot of private owned prisons that are run by geo group or corrections corporation of America have something already ironclad within their agreement that indicates the need for an inmate quota ..
this creates the need to push for (( being tougher on crime legislation while hence targeting minorities as well as immigrants as you incarcerate – non- violent – drug offenders .. * who do you think the major targets will be ? whom are always the mainstay focus when targeting through legislation and corrupt laws within this kind of premise .. ( it will always be people of color ) as well as there will always be others in that full quagmire black and black Latino Americans are highly susceptible to this kind of profiling with a kind of blatant and outlandish disregard as to how unfair or disproportionate .. .
2.) one of the most outlandish misconceptions is that these so called private institutions save these states so much money when in fact they are not really even private at all because they are funded by tax payers meaning (( us )) these corrupt politicians will grant a certain amount of tax payer money to operate these prisons … and these prisons have agreements that are ludicrous wherein they are very long term usually spanning years even decades ..
3.) in Arizona there are three such prisons under this guise of being privately owned that implement contracts that are requiring up to a 100% occupancy, so therefore the state is obligated under these terms to keep it’s prisons filled to at least this capacity otherwise it will have to pay this so called private institution for any space unused or not occupied by an inmate .. (( like what .. ?? which again means us, yes as tax payers whom might even oppose such a travesty such as this and might not be in favor of such nonsensical practices, we will still in turn be funneling the money for this nonsense !
* So much for free market (( this is the reason why we have nonsensical laws that supposedly are to focus on a war against drugs which is why you might see legislation being passed like sp10 70 in Arizona being passed well just what might this look like ? well in short what it looks like is that these so called private institutions will abuse free market industry and make money off of the very citizens it is ironically claiming to hedge or safeguard as well as flourish off of a system that will in turn then turn around and incarcerate those same individuals while making those individuals pay into that same unprincipled system that opposes them . . . so again we will pay for our own demise ..
now it is stated by some ..
* ( That If a municipality has a contract with a private company with say an 60% guaranteed occupancy rate, it does not mean that if that facility’s population falls short of 60% that local law enforcement is going to go out and arrest enough people to make up for it .. supposedly it imposes said municipality may have to transfer inmates from other facilities to make up the deficit. And by doing so, those inmates are taken care of on a bed by bed basis for a smaller cost to the taxpayers than if they were to stay at the government facility.
4.) Arizona, Louisiana, and Oklahoma as well as va. are locked in contracts with the highest occupancy requirements with all quotas being between 95 and 100 percent ..
5.) somehow the government which is no more than a (( privately owned organization controlled by an allegiance, orby an oligarchy if you will )) has somehow not enough money to fund in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program , thee largest program that exists in the domestic hunger safety net. . which in turn feeds veterans you they claim to love and care about so much, feeds hungry and starving children in need as well as families in need due to crisis, the disabled and so forth, etc. etc. . . .
however Yet, they can find a way to induce and entice laws to ensure we put people in prison, make certain these laws are passed through legislation and continue in this tyrannical myriad of extremely inane and fatuous proportions … how we as a collective in society no matter what your political stance no matter your ideologies, i have no idea how we allow this kind of thing to happen as we stand by anesthetized and aloof which appears in short to be the majority unfortunately …
a large part of this problem is in part that we will never be able to control pop culture or it’s participant’s ( ie. celebrities and the like ) which seems to be the center of control faction that supposedly represents us.. even tho we know that they do not .. they are controlled therefore could not and would not ever be a mouthpiece or even good representatives of what it is that speaks to masses .. if this were not true so much would have already changed however a great and large number of us still believe in this thing called celebrity and we succumb to it as well as demigod it even to the point of allowing it influence wherein we forget to pay attention to real issues as if we will not be affected by the outcome ..
6.) it was written – It’s really shortsighted public policy to do anything that ties the hands of the state. If there are these incentives to keep the private prisons full, then it is reducing the likelihood that states will adopt strategies to reduce prison costs by keeping more people out. When the beds are there, you don’t want to leave them empty..
and further written by one of the prison’s own board members . . ” as citizen i would not like to see that many people incarcerated, however as we are in the business, i would like to play our part in it as well …
7.) in short what government appears to be doing is increasingly outsourcing prisons as well as prisoners to the private sector. this does not just end with AZ, VA or Louisiana this is a practice perpetuated around the country ..
8.) corrections corporation of America .. is one such player in this heinous and disgusting practice .. the notion that a corporation making a profit off of this practice is more important to us than public safety or the human rights of prisoners is absolute absurd and disheartening as well as outrageous ..
9.) statistics have it that almost 7 percent of Americas inmates are now housed in a private prisons .. in Colorado alone 1 in 4 inmates is in a private facility .. since 1980 the prison population has increased to 6 times larger and as a result the state forks over almost 95 million dollars a year in tax payer funds to corporate jailers to house it’s excess prisoners..
the us has the largest prison population in the world, even more than in Russia or china almost 3 million prisoners ..
* it has actually been proven that the state facilities have been deemed a lot safer for staff members as well as employee’s and other workers .. with a 49% increase in injuries to inmates and 65% increase in injuries to workers ..
* Richard Smelser whom is a warden at the Crowley county facility in Colorado says even tho he owns stock in the
corrections corporation he would never sacrifice safety for the bottom line .. ?? like what .. ??
why should we think a guy like this has the better interest of people and or safety . . ? does this make any sense at all .. ? so prison has now been made into commerce ?
as long as you put money on body’s in a cell or pay stockholders for those body’s in a cell then you will never see a reduction in our prison population in this country period .. this is despicable ..
9.) it appears that legislation is always faced with the dilemma of expansion within the prison system, which precludes that every year in each state approximately 4,600 more prisoners will be housed thus forcing those states to need more beds and more space unless something is done to reduce the growth rate of the prison population .. it will be on tax payers to spend around 8 hundred million dollars to build more prisons or turn to private contractors ..
10.) we should not want to keep building prisons and taking away from from necessary things such as infrastructure, roads, buildings on college campuses, schools, for higher learning, insuring people within those states and it is also the same at the federal level however meanwhile . while the so called law makers are so called forced into convening a criminal justice commission to look into the just about 50% recidivism rate as well as the causes of its so called crisis and as they review parole laws and sentencing policies that contribute to this nonsense .. private prison companies have their own priorities to pursue, (( they want to keep their beds filled with paying customers ))
in which sometimes they will ship the prisoners from one state to another .. and the only reason that even this much is being shed on the subject matter is because this is now starting to affect more than just the minorities persuasion ..
11.) private prison companies lobby for harsher and longer sentencing guidelines that help to keep these prisons filled .. and their lobbyists work behind the scenes to defeat reforms .. in other words lets just say you have a bill on reducing sentencing within state legislature and it needs to be looked at, well although the private prison industry or full profit industry will not outright cry out for the bill to fail they will in fact have their own lobbyists in the room to make certain that the bill in fact does fail .. this practice is as old as politics itself ..
of course the private prison companies will make the claim that they indeed care but how can we consider this for a moment when their solely obligated in and have an investment in making certain that bodies are contained in cells so how then would they have any other mission other than this ?
11.) the private prison companies will further the claim that no corrections management provider is ever involved with anything corresponding to sentencing legislation however it is always know that they have great influence on anything that effects their business even when it comes to making certain certain laws are passed as they even created (( a free market think tank called the American Legislative Exchange Council or Alec )) that writes pro business laws for state legislatures .. at least one executive with the corrections corp actually sat on the committee that drafted get tough on crime legislation ..
Alec Wakenhut and Geo have participated in Alec and has made a lot of money as a result of the laws imposed ..
12.) the ridiculous thing about it is that in Colorado it was announced by legislators that the corrections corporation has made a threat that unless it gets a five percent increase in payments from the state that they might have to release Colorado inmates ..
* the next prison market opportunity wave to this is immigrant detainee’s and children will become a new private sector profit center .. is this really what we want our world to look like .. ?
sometimes you have to bring papa around to mamma’s way of thinking ..
